Musk\’s X seeks further move away from headquarters as San Francisco\’s struggling housing market takes another hit

Elon Musk\’s X is looking to give up a swath of office space at its San Francisco headquarters, further cutting into the company\’s footprint in the California city and dealing a blow to the city\’s struggling real estate market in downtown.
According to reports, the social media company hired Jones Lang LaSalle to promote its location at 1355 Market St. The headquarters has approximately 460,000 square feet (approximately 42,700 square meters) of office space for sublease.
The company had previously sought to sublease about 330,000 square feet of office space in the building next door.
A JLL spokesperson confirmed that X is giving up its 1355 Market St. of excess space as well as all of the adjacent building One Tenth St.
He declined to say to what extent the company still plans to stay in the office building.
X did not respond to a request for comment.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, the company then known as Twitter leased about 800,000 square feet of space at its headquarters, according to 2020 filings.
