Musk: Will spend at least $9 billion to purchase 300,000 Nvidia AI chips

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said earlier today that his artificial intelligence startup xAI will spend at least US$9 billion to purchase 300,000 Nvidia B200 AI chips.
xAI recently raised US$6 billion, valuing the company at approximately US$18 billion.
Although the chatbot Grok is xAI\’s only product currently, the company plans to significantly expand its AI-related product portfolio by increasing investment in GPU clusters.
As early as April, user The Technology Brother posted on social platform
But Musk disagreed at the time about Tesla and xAI’s ranking in the table.
He pointed out: If the measurement is correct, Tesla should be the second largest and X/xAI the third largest.
Today, Musk gave some reliable predictions about xAI’s upcoming chip buying frenzy.
In response to an online survey, Musk announced that xAI\’s next big move could be the launch of a data center equipped with 300,000 B200 GPUs next summer.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang revealed in March this year that the company’s latest B200 GPU may be priced between US$30,000 and US$40,000.
Calculated based on the lowest price of US$30,000, it means that xAI will spend US$9 billion to purchase approximately 300,000 B200 GPUs.
If xAI can execute Musk\’s ambitious plan, it means it will invest at least half of its current valuation in the next few months to buy Nvidia\’s AI chips.
