After the news was announced, the stock price of Reddit, which had just been listed in March this year, rose by 15% after the market closed. The current increase has narrowed to about 11%.
The two companies said in a joint statement that the agreement will enable OpenAI\’s artificial intelligence tools to better understand and surface Reddit content, especially recent topics.
The agreement allows OpenAI to showcase Reddit content and train AI systems based on data from its partners.
Reddit will also offer its users new AI tools based on models created by OpenAI. OpenAI will place ads on its partners\’ websites.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Reddit content has long been a popular source of training data for making artificial intelligence models, including OpenAI\’s models.
Last week, Reddit released new policies governing its use of data as part of an effort to increase revenue through licensing deals with artificial intelligence developers and other companies.
