Gelonghui, May 8 | Game developer Activision Blizzard was ordered to pay $23.4 million in compensation to Acceleration Bay (currently about 169 million yuan) due to patent infringement.
The jury reached the verdict on May 3 after a nine-year legal dispute.
According to the verdict, Activision Blizzard infringed two of Acceleration Bay\’s patents. These two patents relate to network and broadcast technologies and are used in the multiplayer modes of many of Activision Blizzard\’s games.
The jury ruled that Activision Blizzard must pay US$18 million for infringement of \”World of Warcraft\” and US$5.4 million for infringement of two \”Call of Duty\” games.
Activision Blizzard expressed disappointment in the verdict and said it would appeal the ruling.
